Madison Marcolla
July 2, 2008
The National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Teams for Division I, II & III were announced on Wednesday with a total of 402 women's collegiate golfers recognized with this prestigious honor. Included on that list was Mizzou's Madison Marcolla.
Marcolla played in nine tournaments in 2007-08 as a redshirt freshman for the Tigers, with her best finish coming at the Mountain View Classic in March, where she finished in 25th place with a three-round total of 225. She was one of five Tigers named to the Academic All-Big 12 Team this spring and, in April, was selected to MU's Griffiths Leadership Society.
This is the 21st time a Mizzou women's golfer has earned a spot on the NGCA All-American Scholar Team. The Tigers have had at least one NGCA Scholar in each of the last 12 years.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
