DAVIDSON, N.C. - The North Carolina field hockey team stretched its string of shutouts to six with a 8-0 victory at Davidson Tuesday evening. The top-ranked Tar Heels improved to 11-0 on the season, while the host Wildcats fell to 6-3. Redshirt freshman Elizabeth Drazdowski had two goals in the win, and nine other Tar Heels added at least one goal or assist.

UNC got the only goal it would need 2:07 into the match when senior Rachel Dawson scored on a penalty corner, assisted by Katelyn Falgowski and Jesse Gey. Just over four minutes later, Drazdowski made it 2-0 with her first goal of the night, assisted by Danielle Forword.

At the 10:46 mark, Falgowski grabbed a rebound after a save by Davidson goalkeeper Christa Goeke and put it in for her third goal of the year. Six minutes later, senior Laree Beans scored on an assist from senior Heather Kendell. The final first-half goal came just over nine minutes before halftime. Gey had the score on another assist by Kendell.

The Tar Heels added three more goals in the second half. Two minutes into the action, Drazdowski had her second score. Sophomore Illse Davids put in her first goal of the year at the 48:56 mark. Less than two minutes later, UNC was up 8-0 after a goal by junior Britt van Beek. Freshman Meghan Dawson assisted on the play to tally the first point of her career.

For the game, UNC had 33 shots while the Tar Heel defense held Davidson without a shot. Brianna O'Donnell and Jackie Kintzer split time in goal for Carolina's sixth shutout of the year.

North Carolina has outscored its last six opponents 38-0 and has allowed just seven goals in this season's 11 games.

Next up for the Tar Heels is an ACC battle at Wake Forest on Saturday. Game time in Winston-Salem, N.C., is 1 p.m. and the game will air live on ACC Select. For information, go to www.ACCSelect.com.
