McCormick Earns BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

Ramsden named to Honor Roll

Goalkeeper McCormick has recorded four straight shutouts

Providence, R.I. - Sophomore goalkeeper Maura McCormick (Forty Fort, Pa.) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week it was announce today. McCormick recorded three shutouts and seven saves in the Wildcats three games this week. Sophomore Dana Ramsden (Woolwich, Twp., N.J.) also received BIG EAST recognition as she was named to the Honor Roll.

McCormick and the Wildcats started out the week with their home opener against Rider which they won 1-0 on an exciting last second goal. Next up, Villanova had a 3-0 win against the La Salle Explorers. Lastly, they finished out the week against Fairfield who they beat 4-0, to move to 4-0 on the season for the first time in school history. All four victories have been shutouts which ties a team record.

McCormick played all 210 minutes in the net for the Wildcats and has already surpassed her 2007 season total of three shutouts.

Ramsden recorded four goals and two assists throughout the week. Her second goal of the season came as time expired against Rider and kept the Wildcats undefeated. Ramsden also had two of Villanova's three goals against La Salle. Against Fairfield, she recorded her fifth goal of the season and had two assists. She has been an offensive weapon for the Wildcats as she has scored a goal in every game this season.

The Wildcats are up against Drexel on Wednesday September 10th at Villanova Stadium at 7 p.m.
