UConn Announces 2007 Incoming Class

Five New Faces to Join the UConn Field Hockey Program in the Fall

STORRS, Conn. (May 4, 2007) - The University of Connecticut field hockey team has announced that five student-athletes will join the program beginning with the 2007 season.

The 2007 University of Connecticut field hockey incoming class includes Anna Easty (Toronto, Ontario), Melissa Gonzalez (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.), Kim Krzyk (Seaville, N.J.), Ashley Loviza (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Bethany Semlear (Sag Harbor, N.Y.).

Easty, a 5-3 forward, was a three-time team MVP at Havergal College in Toronto, Canada. She recorded double-figure goals and assists in each of the last three seasons, including a career-best 21 goals and 13 assists as a senior. She was a member of the 2006 U19 Indoor Provincial Team which won a gold medal at the national tournament.

Gonzalez, a 5-4 forward, guided Lakeland (N.Y) High School to a four-year record of 82-5-2, including two state championships. During her senior campaign, Gonzalez guided the Hornets to a perfect 24-0 mark and the state championship while breaking the school's career marks for most goals, assists and points in a career. She was a National All-America choice following both her junior and senior seasons and was a member of four consecutive league championship squads. Gonzalez also lettered in soccer and lacrosse during her prep career.

Krzyk, a 5-3 forward, tallied 66 goals and 41 assists over her prep career at Ocean City (N.J.) High School and led the Raiders to a 42-2-2 record over the last two reasons. She holds the Ocean City H.S. single-season records for goals, assists and points with her 27-goal and 25-assist effort during her senior season. Krzyk helped the Raiders to back-to-back New Jersey Group III South Jersey Championships and the 2005 New Jersey Group III State Title. She was recognized as a National All-America choice in 2005 and 2006 and was a 2006 New Jersey All-State selection. She also played in Holland with the 2005 U16 National Team.

Loviza, a 5-5 forward, was a 2006 New York All-State Team selection after leading Saratoga Springs High School to a 12-7 record while tallying 11 goals and 10 assists. She was a member of two division championship squads at Saratoga Springs H.S. and was a team captain in each of the past two seasons. Loviza also lettered in lacrosse during her prep career.


 

 

Semlear, a 5-3 forward/midfielder, led Sag Harbor High School with 13 goals and five assists during her senior campaign. She was selected as an All-State choice in each of the past two seasons and earned mention to the Newsday All-Long Island Team following both her junior and senior campaigns.

UConn opens the 2007 regular season on Saturday, August 25 when it plays host to Maine beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the George J. Sherman Sports Complex.
