OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University field hockey team had their lone home contest date of the 2008 spring season, hosting Michigan State, Northwestern and Central Michigan on Saturday at the Miami Turf Field.
The RedHawks swept the Spartans, Wildcats and Chippewas, beating Michigan State 2-1, and downing Northwestern and Central Michigan each by a score of 1-0.
Against Michigan State, Elizabeth Gilroy and Courtney Fretz each tallied goals, while Fretz added her second goal of the day in the win against CMU. In the win over Northwestern, Katie Brightwell netted the lone MU goal with an assist from sister Christine Brightwell.
Miami had 17 penalty corners in the three 50-minute games and put 10 shots on goal and allowed only five shots on the RedHawk goalkeepers.
After closing out spring competition this weekend, the RedHawks will prepare for their season-opening Miami Kick-off Classic on Aug. 30-31 at the Miami Turf Field.
