Kansas State U. equestrian places 6th at nationals

Manhattan, KS (UWIRE) -- The Kansas State varsity equestrian team finished its season with a sixth-place finish at the varsity equestrian national championships, including a third-place finish in the Western division.

The Western team captured third place after a 6-1 victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday. Junior Alyssa Freeman captured a win in the reining competition to give K-State an early 3-0 lead. Senior Lindsey Salsbury was the Wildcat leader in horsemanship, leading with a five-point win over Oklahoma State's Jordan Pickelman.

On the English side, K-State tied Delaware State on the first day of competition, 4-4. K-State won one point in equitation over fences event, with junior Whitney Snyder beating Delaware State's Ashley Butler for the point. In equitation on the flat, K-State captured three of the four points to force a tie, with freshman Julie Wolfert, junior Jenny Giraldin and Snyder all winning in head-to-head competition.

In the second day of English competition, K-State fell to Georgia 7-1. The only scorer for the Wildcats was Giraldin, who won in equitation on the flat by one point.
