Greenville, NC (CSTV U-WIRE) -- The women's basketball team fell to Highpoint Monday night 72-70 in the final seconds of the game in an exciting non-conference match up.

The loss drops ECU's record to 1-3 on the season.

With 5 seconds remaining junior standout Jasmine Young made 1 of 2 foul shots to give the Pirates a 70-69 lead.

The lead did not prove to be enough as Highpoint's Jurica Hargraves was fouled on a three point shot with less than one second remaining in the contest. Hargraves connected on all 3 free throws to carry Highpoint to victory and improve their record to 2-2.

The Pirates were led by Jasmine Young and Lauren Cochran who each tallied 12 points in the game. Young also dished out 8 assists on the night.

The last time the two teams met was over 25 years ago.

Kim Gay and Shana Franks made their first starts of the season for ECU against the Panthers.

The lady pirates played solid in the first half and went into halftime tied with Highpoint 37-37.

In an exciting game with 8 lead changes sophomore Jessica Honesty had a season high 6 points.

The ECU bench played very well combing for 34 of the Pirate's 70 points as the Pirates continue to look for a good rotation.

ECU had 11 fast break points but made 18 turnovers in the game allowing Highpoint to capitalize on the pirate's mistakes.

ECU also suffered at the free throw line connecting on only 16-26(62%) free throws while Highpoint shot 11-12 from the stripe.

The Pirates will face Winthrop Friday, November 23 at home in the Lady Pirate Invitational.
