USD Fall 58-50 To Host New Mexico In Lobo Shootout Championship

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - The Toreros (4-5) played strong in the Southwest Airlines Lobo Shootout Championship on Saturday night, but fell 58-50 to the hosting New Mexico Lobos (6-1). San Diego started strong, hitting four of its first six three-point attempts while building an 11-point lead midway through the first half. They finished the half with six treys and went into halftime with an eight-point lead (26-18).

The Lobos came out of halftime on a 9-0 run to take a one-point lead, but the Toreros responded with an 8-0 run of their own. USD held the lead until the Lobos' Mandi Moore hit a three-pointer to tie the game 46-46 at the 5:42 mark. San Diego would be unable to regain the lead, eventually falling by eight.

Freshman Amber Sprague led the Toreros in scoring for the sixth straight game with just eight points. Guards Polly Dong and Brandi Collato also scored eight points for San Diego. Both Sprague and Dong were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts in the two-day tournament.

New Mexico was led by Fatima Mattox with 17 points and Tournament MVP Lindsey Arndt with 15 points.
