Oct. 23, 2003

Senior guard Nancy Bowden was selected to the Horizon League preseason "All-Horizon League" first team for the upcoming campaign, the league announced today. The 5-3 senior led the league in assists last season and was named to the "All-Defensive Team." She enters the 2003-04 season in sixth place on the Bulldogs' career assists list.

League coaches, sports information staffs and media picked the Bulldogs and Youngstown State to finish in a tie for seventh in the league standings. Defending champion UW-Green Bay edged UW-Milwaukee in the preseason poll by seven points. Each school received 13 first-place votes. Loyola was third, followed by Cleveland State, UIC, Detroit, Butler, Youngstown State and Wright State.

The Panthers' Maria Viall, the 2002 league "Player of the Year," was named the preseason "Player of the Year" for the upcoming season. She and Bowden were joined on the first team by Ashley Schrock of Cleveland State, Youngstown State's Jen Perugini, and Ciara Henderson of Loyola. UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee accounted for five of the ten players selected to either the first of second teams.

The Bulldogs will have a blue-white scrimmage following Butler's volleyball match Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The team should take the court at approximately 6 p.m. Butler hosts the Reebok Lady Stars Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in an exhibition game.
