The University of Texas Pan American women's head basketball coach DeAnn Craft announced the transfer of Rachel C. Hester from Elon University in the Southern Conference.

"Rachel Hester fills a definite need in our program," Craft explained. "With the graduation of Keisha Gray, Tiona Wilson and Tamara Vaughn, all 3 point specialists, it was imperative that we find a top level shooter to fill their shoes."

Hester a native of Plano, Texas saw action in all 30 of Elon's games and averaged 7.1 points off the bench. She also averaged 19.9 minutes per game and tallied 73.3 free throws. During the 2006-07 season at Elon, Hester was fifth in the Southern Conference in three pointers.

In high school she helped lead Plano West to the Class 5A State Championship title in 2006 averaging 15 ppg in state playoffs.

"I'm really excited about being here," Hester said of the program. "It should be a really great year; we have a lot of great talent. I'm excited about the program, about the coaches and the girls and I'm really excited and grateful I'm here."
