Events Planned to Honor Coach Haskins

The University of Texas at El Paso and the Haskins family have announced plans for two events honoring the late Coach Don Haskins.

Tuesday, Sept. 9
Noon - 8 p.m.
Don Haskins Center
Coach Haskins will lie in state at the Don Haskins Center. The public is invited to attend and pay their respects to the UTEP coaching legend. Parking will be available in parking lot R-5, known as the Rudolph Lot, accessible from Sun Bowl Drive and N. Mesa Street; and P-9 (north Sun Bowl lot). Disabled parking is available in lots P11 and P13, accessible from Glory Road and Oregon Street. Guests are asked to enter through the Haskins Center tunnel off Glory Road. No cameras will be permitted.

Media Information: Media are invited to cover the viewing from the concourse of the arena during the following 30-minute windows: Noon to 12:30 p.m., 5 to 5:30 p.m. and 6 to 6:30 p.m. All media must enter through the north doors and check in at the media table. No floor access will be allowed. Media parking will be available in lot R-3, directly north of the arena.

Thursday, Sept. 11
6:35 p.m.
Don Haskins Center
The public is invited to attend a memorial service for Coach Haskins at the Don Haskins Center. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the program will tip-off at 6:35 p.m. Friends and colleagues of the Hall of Fame coach will speak at the memorial. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis up to the capacity of the arena. Parking will be available in parking lot R-5, known as the Rudolph Lot, accessible from Sun Bowl Drive and N. Mesa Street; and P-9 (north Sun Bowl lot). Disabled parking is available in lots P11 and P13, accessible from Glory Road and Oregon Street. All doors to the arena will be open. No cameras will be permitted.

 

 

Media Information: Media are invited to cover the memorial. The university will provide a live feed to television stations. Television photographers will be permitted from 5:45-6:30 for one-on-one interviews, and for the first 15 minutes of the memorial service. No television photographers will be allowed inside the arena thereafter. Reporters and still photographers should enter through the north doors, check in at the media table and will be escorted to the media seating area.

All flags on campus will be flown at half-mast beginning on Tuesday at 8 a.m. through the end of the day Thursday in honor of coach Don Haskins.
