ATLANTA - The Georgia Tech Women's Basketball team will partner with GoGirlGo! Atlanta for the inaugural MaChelle Joseph Golf Classic the team's head coach announced Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets will continue their partnership throughout the season in an ongoing initiative to support GirlGoGirl! Atlanta in its effort to promote good decision making along with healthy choices.

"I am very excited about partnering with GoGirlGo! Atlanta and the Women's Sports Foundation," Joseph said. "I can not think of a better cause than to support an organization that touches the lives of so many young girls and encourages them to engage in physical activity to prevent health issues like heart disease which affects the lives of so many women.

"It was important to me that our First Annual Golf Classic benefit a cause that can have a lasting impact on the lives of people living right in our own neighborhoods, and GoGirlGo! is a perfect example of that."

GoGirlGo! was founded by the Women's Sports Foundation, which is the trusted voice of women's sports and physical activity because their work is anchored on fact-based research and 34 years of experience in the design and execution of award-winning education and public policy programs. In the metro Atlanta alone, GoGirlGo! has already reached over 227,000 young women.

Founded in 1974 by Billie Jean King, the Women's Sports Foundation is a national charitable educational organization dedicated to advancing the lives of girls and women through physical activity. They are the only national organization promoting all sports and physical activities for women of all ages and skill levels and are acknowledged by the media as the expert resource on all women's sports issues.

The Golf Classic is scheduled for September 25, 2008 at the Smoke Rise Golf & Country Club in Stone Mountain, Ga. A portion of the tournament's proceeds will help benefit GoGirlGo! Atlanta. GoGirlGo! tries to help advance the lives of girls and women through sports and physical activity.

Participants in the inaugural MaChelle Joseph Golf Classic will be provided lunch, a post tournament reception, a silent auction and a raffle. There will also be on-course contests including a longest drive and closest to the pin competition.
