Women's Basketball Hires New Assistant

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond head women's basketball coach Joanne Boyle has announced that Kim Hairston, a former Richmond player, has joined her program's coaching staff.

Hairston spent the past two years as an assistant at James Madison University where her primary duties included guard development, games strategies and recruiting. Prior to her recent tenure in Harrisonburg, Hairston spent one year at Howard University, helping led the Bison to a first place finish in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Hairston began her college coaching career at James Madison in 2000-01 and was an instrumental part of the Dukes' appearance in the semi-finals of the WNIT. In addition, she served as head coach for both the Capital City Express AAU U15 team and the James River AAU U12 squad.

Hairston played at Richmond for two years after transferring from Radford University. As co-captain her senior year, she was honored to the 2000 CAA All-Defensive team. While at Radford, she earned Big South Rookie of the Year honors in 1996.

The Bassett, Va. native was a 2A All-State selection and a three-time district Player of the Year at Bassett High School.

Hairston earned her bachelor's degree in sports science from the University of Richmond in 2000.

Hairston replaces Jim Daly who left to pursue other opportunities.
