COLUMBIA, Mo. - Incoming University of Missouri freshman women's basketball player Bailey Gee (Andover, Kan. / Andover Central) was named the Lynette Woodard Female High School Athlete of the Year by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission on Friday, June 27. She is the second consecutive Missouri recruit to earn the award after Bekah Mills won the award in 2007.
One of three finalists for the award, Gee was honored at the 11th annual Greater Wichita Area Sports Banquet, held at the Hawker Beechcraft Activity Center in east Wichita, Kan. Mitch Holthus, the voice of the Kansas City Chiefs, was the keynote speaker and Major League Baseball Hall of famer Johnny Bench was a special guest and speaker. Gee was selected by a panel of sports writers and broadcasters based on high school athletic careers, academics, character, work ethic, dedication, commitment and effort.
An EA SPORTS All-America second team honoree, Gee helped Andover Central High School to a perfect 26-0 record and the Kansas Class 4A title after averaging 21.7 ppg., 8.5 rpg., 2.2 spg., 2.0 apg. and shot 61.0 percent from the floor as a senior in 2008. She was named the 2008 Miss Kansas Basketball by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association and earned a spot on the All-State Big Six team, which recognizes the top six players in the state.
A two-time Kansas Class 4A first team honoree, Gee averaged 20.5 ppg., 7.7 rpg. and 2.8 spg. as a junior as Andover Central posted a 23-3 mark and placed third in the state tournament.
Off the basketball court, Gee earned all-league first team honors in volleyball in 2005 and 2006 and finished seventh in the high jump at the state meet in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
