Wittenberg Women's Basketball Coach Pam Smith Dies

Lost bout with Cancer

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) -Pam Smith, Wittenberg University's most successful women's basketball coach, died after a long bout with cancer, the university said Wednesday. She was 47.

Smith, also the university's associate athletic director, died Tuesday at Community Hospital of Springfield.

In 21 seasons at her alma mater, she had a 401-170 record and led Wittenberg to seven NCAC conference tournament championships and eight NCAA Division III tournament appearances.

She is survived by her husband, Roger.
