Staten Island, NY - Wagner College head women's basketball coach Gela Mikalauskas has announced the hiring of former Saint Joseph's (PA) standout Whitney Ffrench as a graduate-assistant coach for the upcoming season. She replaces Christine Catalanotto, who recently completed her graduate studies before accepting a full-time position with the Manhattan Lady Jaspers coaching staff.

Ffrench will be responsible for instruction of the guards, video breakdown as well as on-court coaching.

"We are very happy to have Whitney Ffrench join our staff," said Mikalauskas. "She comes from a great program at Saint Joseph's (PA) and her experience playing point guard in the Atlantic 10 Conference will be a great asset to our team."

Ffrench comes to Wagner from Saint Joseph's (PA) where she was a four-year letterwinner for the Hawks from 2003-2007. She helped guide the Atlantic 10 school to a 68-59 record over four years and three WNIT selections. In her final season, the 5-10 point guard piloted her squad to the Atlantic 10 Championship game and a win over nationally-ranked George Washington along the way. The Hawks also earned wins over the likes of Boston College, Kent State, NC State and Seton Hall during her four years.

As a senior, the Nova Scotia native was second on the team in scoring (10.5 ppg), shooting (41.5 percent) and (77.0 percent) from the line while starting 31 games. Ffrench finished her career with over 700 points while playing in 97 games with 64 starts.

The 2008-2009 Wagner women's schedule will be released later this month.
