Irvine, Calif. -- Molly Tuter resigned Wednesday as head women's basketball coach at UC Irvine, announced by Director of Athletics Mike Izzi.

"I thank Molly for the passion and commitment she has shown to UC Irvine and wish her well in her future endeavors," said Izzi.

Tuter, who compiled a record of 30-81 in four years as head coach, had one year remaining on her contract.

Prior to becoming head coach in March 2005, Tuter served as the interim head coach a portion of the 2004-05 season after Mark Adams resigned following an 0-7 start. She served as an assistant coach at UCI for three seasons (2000-2004) as well as an assistant coach at UCLA for two years (1998-2000).

The Anteaters were 7-24 overall last season, finishing seventh in the Big West Conference with a 3-13 league record.

Izzi said a national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
