WASHINGTON, DC -- The Georgetown University women's basketball team announced its 2004-2005 award winners at its annual awards banquet on Saturday, April 30th. Four seniors were also honored for their hard work and dedication during their years on the Hilltop: Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall), Sarah Jenkins (Bowie, MD/Riverdale Baptist), Varda Tamoulianis (Moscow, Russia/ Academy of Labour and Social Relations) and team manager Karane Williams. All four helped the Hoyas place sixth in the BIG EAST during head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy first season.
Junior Bethany LeSueur (Garden City, NY/Garden City) took home the top award of the night, the team's MVP award. LeSueur started all 28 games this season for the Hoyas and placed third on the team in scoring (9.8 ppg), rebounding (5.6 rpg) and assists (2.5 apg). LeSueur also took home the team's Steals Award, leading the team in that category with 2.0 per game.
Freshman Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) picked up the rebounding award, leading the team with 8.6 rpg. Marlow, the team's only freshman to start all 28 games, also led the team in scoring with 12.5 ppg and minutes played with 31.4 mpg.
Fellow freshman Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, IL/Fenwick) received the team's Scholar Athlete Award. Heidloff played in all 28 games for the Hoyas, starting in 16. She led the team in three-point percentage (over 20 attempts) at 40%, and was second on the team in several categories including three pointers made (34), assists (3.0 apg) and steals (1.4 spg).
The Coaches Award was given to Karane Williams, a senior English major who has served as the team's manager the past four years. Fan of the Year honors were awarded to Cornell Burke.
Bethany LeSueur started all 28 games this season for the Hoyas and placed third on the team in scoring (9.8 ppg).
