FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State women's basketball interim head coach Adrian Wiggins has announced that junior Jenny Thigpin has decided to transfer to Fresno State from Arizona State. Thigpin joins incoming freshmen Stevie Hagemeister and Andrea Videbeck among newcomers to next year's roster.
Thigpin, a native of Hanford, Calif., and 2002 graduate of Hanford High School, helped guide the Sun Devils to a 24-10 record last season in addition to the school's first Sweet 16 appearance in 22 years. Thigpin appeared in 33 games during the 2004-05 campaign, averaging 7.7 minutes, 2.0 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. A 6-3 forward/center, Thigpin averaged 3.9 ppg her sophomore season and 3.0 ppg during her rookie year.
"Jenny's desire is to return home and make the Valley proud," said Wiggins. "Today was the first step in that direction and we are excited to have her as a part of our program."
Because of NCAA transfer rules, Thigpin will not be eligible to play for Fresno State until the 2006-07 season. She may, however, participate in all team practices and functions until then.
Thigpin was the 2002 Visalia Times-Delta Player of the Year and a finalist for the McDonald's and Women's Basketball Coach Association All-American teams. She earned first-team all-state Division II honors and was a member of the all-state third team as a senior. During her senior campaign, she averaged 20 points, 16.3 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game.
Thigpin was a four-time All-West Yosemite League selection, capturing co-MVP honors in 2001-02. A multi-sport athlete, she lettered three times in volleyball and twice in softball. Thigpin played with current Bulldog standout Amy Parrish while at Hanford High School.
