DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis wrestling team has signed Justin Arredondo of Buchanan High School in Clovis to a National Letter of Intent during the spring signing period, head coach Lennie Zalesky announced this week. Arredondo will enroll at UC Davis beginning in the Fall of 2008.
"He's got great technique and we're excited to work with him," said Zalesky. "He's also a great student. I'm looking forward to adding him to our young nucleus of lightweights, which bodes well for our future."
Arredondo capped his prep career at Buchanan High School with a 52-1 record and a state championship at 130 pounds. He also won Tri River Athletic Conference and Southern Section title along the way. The league title was his third consecutive while the section championship was the second of his career. He also helped his team to three straight league titles from 2005-2007 and a state championship during his sophomore season in 2006. Arredondo was named to the Fresno Bee first team this past season and excels academically as a member of the California Scholastic Federation. He is expected to wrestler at 133 pounds for the Aggies.
Arredondo is the second former state champion to sign with UC Davis this year, joining fall signee Trevor Machado-Ching. In all, the Aggies have signed five this offseason to NLI's: Kody Klaus, and David and Randall Watts are the other three.
