#4 Oklahoma State Posts 35-6 Win Over UNI Wrestlers
 
 

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa wrestling team fell to No. 4-ranked Oklahoma State on Saturday night at the McLeod Center, 35-6. The Panthers picked up two wins in the dual with the Cowboys.

Oklahoma State improved to 12-3 on the season, while UNI dropped to 3-8 overall.

The Cowboys sprinted out to a 15-0 lead in the dual with wins at the first three weight classes. Tyler Shinn tallied a fall in the first period over UNI's Grant Ruge at the 2:09 mark at 125 pounds. Coleman Scott notched a 13-1 major decision over UNI's Kyle Anson at 133 pounds. Nathan Morgan finished the early Cowboy run with a 18-3 technical fall over Mike Whisler at 141 pounds.

UNI got on the board at 149 pounds when senior Ryan Osgood scored a 3-1 overtime win over OSU's B.J. Jackson. Osgood scored a takedown 20 seconds into the overtime session to grab the victory.

Panther sophomore Moza Fay recorded a 5-0 shutout win at 157 pounds when he got past OSU's Newly McSpadden. Fay's win pulled UNI to within 15-6 in the dual.

The marquee matchup of the night came at 165 pounds when No. 1-ranked Johny Hendricks held on for a 2-1 win over No. 5-ranked Nick Baima. Hendricks scored a technical violation point in the first period and then both wrestlers traded escapes in the second and third periods. Baima attempted to take down Baima late in regulation but could not knock off the undefeated Hendricks.
 

 

OSU's Brandon Mason scored a 4-0 decison over UNI's Alex Dolly at 174 pounds and then OSU's Jack Jensen recorded a 15-4 major decision over the Panthers' Dallas Mitchell at 184 pounds.

The Cowboys' Jared Shelton tallied a 13-3 major decision over UNI's Andrew Anderson at 197 pounds to put OSU on top 29-6. OSU heavyweight Jared Rosholt was awarded a forfeit victory to cap off the dual and give the Cowboys a 35-6 team win.

The Panthers will continue its home action next weekend with duals on Sat., Feb. 3 and Sun., Feb. 4. UNI will take on Eastern Illinois at 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 3 in the McLeod Center. The Panthers will then challenge both Old Dominion and Northern Illinois on Feb. 4, beginning at 2 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
