LA JOLLA, Calif. - Senior hole set Paul Wilson totalled five goals while senior utility Adam Bennett added four, as UC Davis split its two Sunday games en route to a seventh-place finish at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational men's collegiate water polo tournament at the Canyonview Aquatics Center. The Aggies lost to 14th-ranked UCSD by a 14-11 final, then stopped No. 13 Pacific in a 10-5 victory in their day's finale.

UC Davis, ranked No. 11 in the preseason collegiate coaches' poll, opens the year at 2-2.

Senior Adam Lindsay and sophomore Aaron Salit also scored for UC Davis in each game. Lindsay was one of a trio of Aggies with two goals apiece in the win over Pacifc.

UC Davis fell into a 5-1 hole during the opening period against UCSD, as Triton junior Steven Donohoue scored two of his three goals in that span. The Aggies later closed the gap to within a single score when Lindsay's backhanded shot beat two defenders to bring the score to 7-6 early in the third quarter. However, Triton senior Adnan Jerkovic scored a man-up goal on the next possession, then assisted Donohoe's 6-on-5 score at the 5:04 mark, padding the UCSD lead back to three.

Wilson scored two goals in the fourth period, including one at the buzzer, but the Tritons had matched the UC Davis scoring output in each of the final three quarters to preserve their win.

Five different Aggie players scored a goal in the first half in the seventh-place game against Pacific, as UC Davis crafted a 5-1 lead at the break. Joe Rossi and Timothy Urrea provided goals late in the third to cut the deficit to 5-3, but Wilson scored with 14 seconds remaining to push the Aggie lead back to three goals heading into the fourth. Sophomore Cory Lyle scored in transition with 3:24 remaining and Wilson converted a 5-meter penalty shot at the 2:26 to highlight UC Davis in the final period.

The Aggies return to action on September 12 for a road game at UC Santa Barbara, then host their home opener against Navy one week later.
