Bruins Beat Alumni in Men's Volleyball

UCLA prevails in three, but drops the fourth game.

In a predetermined four-game match, the UCLA varsity swept the Alumni team before the stars of the past got the last laugh and won the fourth game Saturday in Pauley Pavilion.

The UCLA varsity won 30-25, 30-23, 30-25. The Alumni won Game 4, 30-23. The entire match lasted 108 minutes and entertained at least 300 fans on the Bruins' home floor.

Junior Brett Perrine and sophomore Weston Dunlap led the varsity starters with nine kills apiece. Freshman opposite Kyle Caldwell added seven kills (.667), an ace, four digs and two total blocks. Substitute Teddy Goetz led the Bruins with 10 kills (.389).

Former Bruin great Kris Kraushaar led the Alumni with nine kills (.643) an ace and four digs. Brennan Prahler recorded six kills (.625) and Matt Komer and Seth Burnham each added five kills. Former four-time All-American Tony Ker led the Alumni with 11 digs, and setter/actor Court Young recorded 24 assists.

The relics actually out-blocked the varsity, 13.5-10.0, and recorded seven aces to the youngsters' six.

Fifty-nine kills and a .316 attack percentage accounted for the varsity's margin of victory. The fossils hit .183 on just 50 kills.

UCLA returns to preseason intercollegiate play, Nov. 21-22, hosting the four-team SAC Tournament at the Men's Gym. Admission is free.
