Dec. 15, 2003

BERKELEY, Calif. - Cal tennis players Conor Niland, Balazs Veress and Wayne Wong made the ITA pre-season regional rankings, after a reasonably good fall tournament season.

Niland paced the Golden Bears during the autumn months, posting a 12-4 record, while bringing home the ITA All-American Consolation Championship and the ITA Regional Championship. For his efforts, Niland received the No. 3 ranking in the region.

Veress was awarded the 19th position in the region, after recording a 3-4 mark against stiff competition this fall.

Wong tallied the second most wins on the squad this fall, winning six of eight matches in tournament play. Wong started the tournament season off with three fast wins and finished it with a strong showing at the ITA regional, where he reached the quarterfinals. Wong will enter the spring as the 24th-ranked player in the region.

The Bears begin their season on Jan. 16, 2004 at the Sherwood Country Club Invitational in Sherman Oaks, Calif.
