Bonnies claim seven flight titles at SBU Invite

Brown and White sweep weekend doubles action

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Four individual flight titles and a clean sweep of the doubles flights highlighted a strong opening weekend of the 2008-09 season for the St. Bonaventure men's tennis team at the SBU Fall Invite.

The Bonnies claimed seven of the 11 possible flight titles, while Buffalo took home three individual flights and Youngstown State one. Flight winners were determined by overall record after playing each team in both singles and doubles.

For different Bonnies finished the weekend with an unblemished record in both singles and doubles action. Sophomore Chris Post and junior Diego Valdenegro each went a perfect 3-0 in singles play, claiming the fourth and fifth flights, respectively. Senior Victor Lecina won both of his matches at No. 1 singles to win the flight, while sophomore Mikhail Sudakov did the same at No. 7 singles.

It was a near flawless weekend in doubles action for St. Bonaventure, as it posted an 8-0 overall record as a team. The tandem of Post and senior Leo Mochizuki took home first flight honors with a mark of 2-0. Sudakov and Lecina capped their unbeaten weekend with a flight win at No. 2 doubles, while Valdenegro and senior Jonathan Luce also went 2-0 in No. 3 doubles.

St. Bonaventure will be back in action on Friday, September 12, when it heads to Ithaca, N.Y., for the Cornell Invite.
