TCU claimed two positions in the preseason release of the ITA collegiate men's tennis rankings last week. Senior Kriegler Brink appeared in both the singles and doubles lists, as he was paired with sophomore teammate Zach Nichols in the doubles ranks.
"It's nice to continue to have our athletes recognized in the ITA rankings," Head Coach Dave Borelli said. "We are happy, but one our main goals is to see more of our guys ranked by the end of the year."
Brink, the lone senior on a very young TCU men's tennis roster, cracked the opening ITA singles ratings at No. 93. He posted a team-best record of 23-3 in team dual matches as a junior and teamed with former teammate Cosmin Cotet to earn the nation's No. 53 doubles ranking from the ITA a season ago. Brink split time between the No. 3 and 4 positions during singles competition.
While Nichols did not team up with Brink in doubles play during his freshman season, he did experience a breakout campaign by posting a 22-5 record in dual singles matches. The Austin, Texas, native played doubles mainly with fellow freshman Jack Seider (14-10 dual record), although he did split six additional matches between playing with freshmen teammates Emanuel Brighiu (2-1), Casey Powers (0-1) and Adrian Simon (0-1).
Cotet was the lone Horned Frog to appear in the final 2007-08 ITA rankings. He concluded his TCU career ranked 30th.
TCU opens its fall season on the road Sept. 26-28 at the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas.
