Paladins move to 2-0 in SoCon play

Head coach Paul Scarpa was honored for his 800th career win before the Paladins defeated The Citadel 6-1 on Wednesday.

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Furman men's tennis team improved to 6-10 on the season and 2-0 in Southern Conference play with a 6-1 win over The Citadel on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs won the hard-fought doubles point, with wins at the number two and three spots. At number two doubles, the team of Daniel Dossetor and Yufo Sutantio topped Andy Juc and Andrei Chvetsov 9-8, while Martin King and Frederic Petrilli defeated Chris Rhyne and Jason Basile by the same score. At the number one spot, Bo Ladyman and Chris Motes earned a win for the Paladins with a 9-8 victory over Alberto Diaz and James Eason.

Down 0-1 to start the match, the Paladins rebounded to win all six singles matches, beginning with freshman Sawyer Duncan's 6-0, 6-1 win over Frederic Petrilli in the number six spot. Junior Andy Juc also won in straight sets, with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Daniel Dossetor in the top singles spot, while Chris Motes and Jordan Walters both picked up straight set victories as well, playing in the number four and five spots respectively.

With the win, Furman improves to 6-10 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Conference, while The Citadel falls to 11-9 and 3-3 in league play. Furman will take the court again on Saturday when the Paladins host the College of Charleston at 1:00 p.m.
