Charleston, SC - With their second SoCon win, The Citadel tennis team improved on their season by defeating Southern Conference foe Appalachian State, 5-2 at the Earle Tennis Center on Friday, March 11.
The Citadel confidently opened doubles play by wining the first two matches to take the doubles point. At the number one position, freshmen James Eason and Daniel Dossetor defeated Alex Probst and Ryan Brookshaw, 8-5, while the number three team of freshmen Ananda Sawmynaden and Sophomore Derek Jose defeated Appalachian's Andrew Taylor and Zack Williams, 8-2. The Mountaineers picked up a win at the number two position as Andrew Waters and Dimitar Dimitrov defeated juniors David Lara and Nick Medica, 8-6.

In singles action, The Bulldogs won the first match with Dossetor defeating Probst 6-3, 6-1. Appalachian State then bounced back and won matches at No. 2 and 3 spots. At number two Dimitrov defeated Eason, 7-6, 6-2, and at number three Brookshaw defeated Sawmynaden 7-6, 6-3. The Citadel fought back and gathered wins in the next three contests. The match was clinched by Lara who came from behind to win number four singles, defeating Waters, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
"My guys played very well today," stated head coach Toby Simpson, "I'm looking forward to seeing their continual improvement."
The Bulldogs travel to UNC Greensboro on Sunday, March 13 in another Southern Conference match up. The Mountaineers will stay in Charleston to take on The College of Charleston Cougars on Saturday, March 12.
