JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida tennis players Jose Terrera and Vanessa Sanchez swept Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honors, as released by the conference office on Tuesday, after posting strong performances for their respective squads last week.

Terrera, a native of Cordoba, Argentina, went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles play last week for the UNF men, including a win over 68th-ranked Bram ten Berge of Ole Miss on Thursday during the Ospreys' 5- 2 loss to the fifth-ranked Rebels.

In doubles against the Rebels, Terrera teamed with Matias Sigal, where the duo suffered a 9-7 loss in a match where they served for match point - which would have given UNF the doubles point and a 1-0 lead in the match.

"Jose had an unbelievable week," UNF head coach Igal Buberman said. "He really picked up his level, which reminded me of the way he used to play at the peak of his Division II days. He has shown a lot of heart and dedication this season. I am happy for him. He definitely deserves the honor."

Sanchez, meanwhile, went 3-0 in singles play at the No. 1 position - defeating Elizabeth Syrova of Eastern Michigan, Lauriane Auvergne of Mercer and Paula Takara of Kennesaw State. She Also went 3-0 in doubles play, teaming with Robin Rogers at the No. 3 position to post 8-4, 8-5, 8-5 decisions in the three matches, respectively.

The Merida, Mexico, native has now won five straight matches in singles play over the last two weeks, including a 3-0 mark against A-Sun foes.

As a team, the Lady Ospreys have won five straight overall matches and seven of their last eight.

"Vanessa has been picking up her level of play since she came to UNF last year," Buberman said. "She is a consistent player who really had an incredible record as a freshman last year (26-5 singles, 16-10 doubles). To be able to step up in conference play this first year and take three matches at the No. 1 position is a great accomplishment. This is just the beginning. She has the potential to accomplish so much more."
