Xavier's Vukicevic defeats two-time NAIA All-American

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Xavier University of Louisiana's Miroslav Vukicevic defeated Fresno Pacific's Matt Carroll -- a two-time NAIA first-team All-American and ranked ninth in the NAIA by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association -- 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles in a dual match Sunday.

Fresno Pacific won the dual 7-2 against the No. 20 Gold Rush. Fresno Pacific's second-ranked women defeated No. 25 Xavier 8-1.

Xavier's men (1-5) scored their other point when Terry Richardson and Vusumzi Kempele defeated Solomon Daud and Aaron Frantz 8-0. The Gold Nuggets (2-4) scored their point at No. 4 singles when Alexandra Broussard won in a walkover over Maria Klokotzky, who became ill after her doubles match.

Both Fresno Pacific teams are 3-0.

Xavier's next competition will be men's and women's duals at 11 a.m. Friday against Spring Hill at UNO Wow Café Tennis Center. It will be the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opener for all four teams.
