(SAN DIEGO, CA) -- The 44th-ranked USD men's tennis team defeated the Saint Mary's Gaels 5-2 this afternoon at the USD West Courts to improve to 1-3 on the the season. The win also gave 9th-year head coach Tom Hagedorn his 100th career victory at USD where he now sits at 100-80. The Toreros won the all-important doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, then won four of six singles matches with Nic Beuque (No. 1), Mirza Koristovic (No. 2), Oscar Plotnik (No. 5) and Matt Ozurovich (No. 6) netting victories. USD will host Fresno State on Feb. 20th in their next match.

In doubles play Pierrick Ysern and Nic Beuque teamed up at No. 1 where they handed J.J. Whitlinger and Adam Fauvre a 8-5 loss. SMC won at No. 2 with Andre Sion and Martin Marechal besting Robbie Blair and Thomas Liversage, 9-8. Oscar Plotnik and Mirza Koristovic won at No. 3 with an 8-3 win over Yury Platonov and Julien Tizot.

Singles play saw Nic Beuque down Marechal at No. 1 (6--1, 1-0 retired); Mirza Koristovic beat Adam Fauvre at No. 2 (6-4, 6-3); Robbie Blair fall to Julien Tizot (6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8 Super Tiebreaker)) at No. 3, Thomas Liversage drop a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8 Super Tiebreaker) to Andre Sion at No. 4; Oscar Plotnik down Yury Platonov at No. 5 (6-3, 6-3), and Matt Ozurovich beat J.J. Whitlinger at No. 6 (6-1, 6-1).
