NO. 4 SEED CAVALIERS HEAD TO COLLEGE CUP FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 1997
No. 4 seed Virginia heads to the College Cup as one of four teams remaining to compete for the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. Virginia faces No. 8 seed UCLA Friday at 6 p.m. (EST)/5 p.m. (CST) in the NCAA Semifinals at Robert R. Hermann Stadium in St. Louis, Mo. The game will be televised live on ESPN2. The winner will face the winner of the game between No. 2 seed Wake Forest and UC Santa Barbara in the NCAA Finals on Sunday at 3 p.m. (EST)/2 p.m. (CST). That game will also be televised live on ESPN2.

ABOUT THE VIRGINIA CAVALIERS
Virginia (17-3-1) advanced to the NCAA Semifinals after defeating No. 12 seed Notre Dame, 3-2, in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Senior forward Adam Cristman scored a pair of goals off two assists from Nico Colaluca and Yannick Reyering scored his 12th goal of the season against Notre Dame. Virginia earned the No. 4 seed in the 2006 NCAA Tournament after finishing 14-3-1 and 5-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference during the regular season and ACC Tournament. The Cavaliers posted one of the top RPIs in the country. UVa earned a first round bye before defeating Bucknell, 4-0, in the second round; No. 13 seed Cal, 2-1, in the third round; and Notre Dame in the quarterfinals. Reyering leads the team with 32 points which includes 12 goals and eight assists. It is the second straight season that Reyering has scored at least 10 goals and put up at least 30 points. Cristman is second with a career-high 10 goals and five assists for 25 points while Colaluca is third with 24 points including a season-high seven goals and 10 assists. UVa has outscored opponents, 40-17, and out-shot them, 324-224. The Cavs are averaging 15.4 shots per game. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Burke has a 0.82 goals against average with 70 saves. He's posted eight shutouts.
 

 

ABOUT THE UCLA BRUINS
No. 8 seed UCLA is led by forward David Estrada with 10 goals and four assistsfor 24 points in 21 games. The Bruins defeated Harvard, 3-0, in the second round and No. 9 seed Clemson in the third round, 3-0. UCLA rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat No. 1 seed Duke, 3-2, in overtime on the road. UCLA has a five-game unbeaten streak. Midfielder Sal Zizzo has seven goals and nine assists for 23 points.

THE VIRGINIA-UCLA SERIES
In the overall series, UCLA leads the all-time series, 5-2-1. The teams met during the regular season on Sept. 4. Virginia won that meeting 1-0. Virginia's other win in the series came in 1988 when UVa won, 3-0. This Virginia's third meeting with the Bruins in the NCAA Tournament. UVa is 0-2 against the Bruins in the NCAA Tournament.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE BRUINS
Yannick Reyering scored on Nico Colaluca's corner kick in the 88th minute as No. 3 Virginia shut out No. 10 UCLA, 1-0, at Klockner Stadium. It was the Cavaliers (4-0-0) fourth straight shutout while the Bruins fell to 0-2-1 on the season. The Cavaliers finally broke through the Bruins' defense in the 87th minute. After UVa was awarded a corner kick, Jeremy Barlow's first attempt was blocked out wide, which allowed the Cavaliers another chance. Colaluca took his corner from the right side. He sent a ball over the middle that skipped to Reyering. Reyering reared back and fired a shot from about 10 yards out that proved to be the game-winner at the 88:13 mark.

HOW VIRGINIA MADE IT ...
UVa 4, Bucknell 0

Sophomore midfielder Nico Colaluca and freshman midfielder Jonathan Villanueva each scored a goal and posted an assist while senior goalkeeper Ryan Burke broke the school record with his 28th career shutout as No. 4 seed Virginia knocked off Bucknell, 4-0, Wednesday night in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in front of 2,083 fans at Klockner Stadium. Adam Cristman and Ian Holder each added goals for the Cavaliers (15-3-1), who advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.

UVa 2, Cal 1
Sophomore forward Yannick Reyering scored two second-half goals including the game-winner in the 74th minute to help No. 4 seed Virginia overcome a halftime deficit to send the Cavaliers to the NCAA Quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory over No. 13 seed California in front of 3,644 fans at Klöckner Stadium in NCAA Third Round action. The Cavaliers will now host Notre Dame at 6 p.m. Friday night with a trip to the 2006 NCAA College Cup on the line. Reyering finished the game with six shots as he scored his 10th and 11th goals of the season. It is the second straight season that he has scored at least 10 goals. Ryan Burke finished the game with six saves, which gives him the career record with 250 saves surpassing Jeff Causey.

UVa 3, Notre Dame
Senior forward Adam Cristman scored a pair of goals off two assists from Nico Colaluca and Yannick Reyering scored his 12th goal of the season as No. 4 seed Virginia defeated No. 12 seed Notre Dame, 3-2, Friday night to advance to the NCAA College Cup in St. Louis next weekend. Virginia set the NCAA single-season record for total attendance as 5,850 fans watched the Cavaliers knock off the Fighting Irish giving UVa a single-season record of 43,183. Virginia advanced to the NCAA College Cup for the first time since 1997. The Cavaliers were the first team to punch their ticket to St. Louis. It is the second under Virginia head coach George Gelnovatch that Virginia will make a trip to the national semifinals. Cristman set his career-high for goals in a season with his ninth and 10th goals. He now has 34 career goals. Notre Dame out-shot Virginia, 13-11, and held a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks.

FAMILIAR TERRITORY IN ST. LOUIS FOR THE CAVALIERS
Robert Hermann Stadium is a familiar place for the Virginia Soccer team. The Cavaliers played in the Saint Louis Nike Soccer Classic in 2004 and went 1-1. UVa defeated Cincinnati, 1-0, before losing to the home-standing Billikens, 2-1.

CRISP CRISTMAN
Senior forward Adam Cristman continues his hot play as he wraps up his senior season for the Cavaliers. Cristman has broke a single season career high with 25 points which now gives him 73 career points. Cristman has 10 goals in the last 13 games. The 10 goals are also a career-high.
