CARY, N.C. - Junior fullback Jamie Melas broke a scoreless tie in the 64th minute to lift No. 6 Boston College to a 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament victory over Virginia in quarterfinal-round action on Wednesday at the SAS Soccer Complex.

Boston College, the tournament's top seed, will face Virginia Tech, which defeated Maryland 3-0 in semifinal action on Friday, Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m.

Melas ripped a bouncing loose ball home for his first collegiate score at 63:26. The goal was scored off Ryan Sherman's corner kick that senior striker Sherron Manswell one-time on goal and Virginia goalkeeper Dan Louisignau (five saves), who made the initial save before Melas kicked in the rebound.

The Eagles outshot the Cavaliers, 15-5, including an 11-3 advantage in the second half, and earned a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.

The victory marked BC's first in ACC Tournament play as the 2005 team fell to Wake Forest while last year's team fell to Maryland in double overtime.
