GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina senior forward Corey Ashe lifted the Tar Heels to a 3-1 win at Boston College en route to being named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Ashe scored two goals in just over three minutes in the second half to secure the Tar Heel victory.
After beating the Eagles' keeper from the left side of the box in the 52nd minute, Ashe followed in the 56th minute with a rebound goal off a Ben Hunter shot for the eventual game winner. He is the 11th Tar Heel to record a game-winning score this season and now ranks second on the team with 10 points on three goals and four assists.
The award marks Ashe's first of the 2006 season and second for a Tar Heel as Scott Campbell received the award on Sept. 25. The honor also concludes the regular season weekly awards. Ashe was also named ACC Player of the Week Sept. 6, 2004.
The Tar Heels will be back in action at the ACC Championship at the Maryland SoccerPlex Nov. 1.
Corey Ashe was named ACC Player of the Week for the second time in his career Monday.
