Zips Men's Soccer Summer Update No. 2

AKRON, Ohio - - Members of the University of Akron men's soccer team are keeping busy this summer in preparation for the 2006 season. Below is an up-to-date look at what these student-athletes are up to in the United Soccer Leagues' Premiere Development League (PDL).

May 27: Chicago Fire Premiere at Indiana Invaders

Sinisa Ubiparipovic and Jonathan McClain were each credited with an assist as the Chicago Fire Premiere cruised to a 4-0 win over the Indiana Invaders in PDL soccer action. Goalkeeper Evan Bush picked up the shutout, coming up with 10 saves.

May 28: Cleveland Internationals vs. West Michigan Edge

Elliot Bradbrook scored a goal in the 86th minute to give the Internationals a 2-2 tie with the West Michigan Edge. Defender Ossie Michalsen also saw 45 minutes of action in the game.

June 3: Chicago Fire Premiere vs. Michigan Bucks

Sinisa Ubiparipovic netted the game winner in the 85th minute as the Chicago Fire Premiere knocked off the Central Division leader Michigan Bucks. Evan Bush tallied three saves in his third victory of the season. The win put the Fire Premiere in a first-place tie with the Bucks at 4-1.

June 3: Kalamazoo Kingdom at Indiana Invaders

Pablo Moreira picked up an assist for the Kingdom in a 2-1 loss.
 

 

June 4: Kalamazoo Kingdom at Cleveland Internationals

Pablo Moreira got the best of several of his Akron teammates in the 71st minute with the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over the Cleveland Internationals. It was Moreira's team-leading fifth goal of the PDL season. UA's Mike Crane was in goal for the Internationals and was joined on the field by Ossie Michalsen and Elliot Bradbrook for the entire 90-minute match.

June 7: Chicago Fire Premiere vs. Chicago Fire Reserves

The PDL's Chicago Fire Premiere took on the reserve squad of the Chicago Fire of the MLS in a scrimmage on Wednesday morning, with the professionals coming away with a 3-1 win. Evan Bush got the start in goal for the Fire Premiere, along with Matt Tutich in the midfield and Jonathan McClain in the back.

Zips In Action This Saturday

There will be a lot of faces familiar to Zips fans on the pitch this Saturday as the Chicago Fire Premiere takes on the Cleveland Internationals on June 10 at the Medina High School soccer field at 8:30 p.m. Sinisa Ubiparipovic, Jonathan McClain, Matt Tutich and Evan Bush will suit up for the Fire Premiere, while Elliot Bradbrook, Ossie Michalsen and Mike Crane will be in uniform for Cleveland.
