Garden City, N.Y. - Former Adelphi University men's lacrosse player Chad Henry (Acton, Ontario) was selected 52nd overall by the Boston Blazers in the 2008 National Lacrosse League (NLL) Entry Draft. Henry is the second player in the past three years to be drafted into the NLL and the third to be drafted by a professional league, joining Wes Green (2006) and Michael Gongas (2007).
Henry was Adelphi's second leading point-scorer last season tallying 30 goals and adding seven assists. The former Canadian box lacrosse all star arrived in Garden City from Herkimer Community College where was a member of the 2005 national championship squad while also earning All-American honors. He completed his two-year stint in a Panther uniform with 42 points, seven assists and 26 ground balls.
Henry was one of forty players and just four NCAA Division II athletes to take part in the NLL combine this past Saturday evening at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, MA.
"Having coached Chad last season and seen his ability first hand I have no doubt that he will be able to flourish and play a major role in the National Lacrosse League," Head Coach Gordon Purdie said. "The entire team wishes him nothing but the best and look forward to following his career."
The National Lacrosse League is North America's oldest professional indoor lacrosse league, featuring thirteen teams playing in the major markets of the United States and Canada. NLL teams each play a 16-game regular season schedule that begins in December and runs through April, followed by the Champion's Cup Playoffs.
The Blazers are an expansion team this season and play at the TD Banknorth Garden and will open their 2009 season on Friday, Jan. 10 against the New York Titans.
