NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to down visiting Babson College, 11-7, on Saturday in Pilgrim League action during Senior Day at Mirrione Stadium before clinching the second seed in the upcoming conference tournament and a right to host its first Pilgrim Tournament game since 1998.

The Lyons won their fourth straight contest, improving to 7-8 overall and 5-2 in the Pilgrim. The Beavers fell to 6-9 and 5-2, losing for just the second time in eight games. These same teams will now square off in the first round of the league tournament at Wheaton on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.

Babson quickly jumped out to a three-goal lead, as senior Jason Wellemeyer (Pembroke, MA/Catholic Memorial) scored twice in a 1:34 span before junior Matt Enright (Bristol, RI/Milton Academy) tallied 6:19 into the contest. Wheaton whittled away at its deficit during the remainder of the opening period, as consecutive markers made it 3-2 with 5:54 to go, but the Beavers tallied again 47 ticks later.

Down 4-2, the Lyons took control, scoring five consecutive goals from the first through third quarters. Freshman Duncan Smith (Centerport, NY/Harborfields) found the back of the net late in the opening period, senior Richie Rasamny (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) knotted the game 2:12 into the second stanza and sophomore Warren Garceau (Guilford, CT/Canterbury School) put Wheaton on top 1:51 later to make it 5-4 by halftime.

To begin the third quarter, freshman Chris Landers (Manchester, MA/Proctor Academy) scored on a man-up opportunity at 12:23 to become Wheaton's sixth different goal scorer, and Smith converted a Landers pass at 9:36 to push the Lyons ahead, 7-4. After Enright scored off a Wellemeyer feed 1:09 later with a man advantage, Landers tacked on a man-down tally just 25 seconds after that and completed his hat trick at 3:34, making it 9-5.

Wellemeyer scored again with 37.8 ticks remaining in the third, but Wheaton reestablished its four-goal cushion when freshman Ben Cederberg (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) tallied thanks to a Landers pass at 13:11 of the fourth. Cederberg and Enright each scored in the final 2:04 of regulation.

Landers turned in three goals and two assists, with all five points coming in a 14:12 span during the second half, while Cederberg had two goals and two helpers. Smith scored twice, while Rasamny turned in a goal and an assist to tie for 10th in program history with 110 career points. Sophomore Schuyler Horn (New Hartford, CT/Kingswood-Oxford School) made 10 saves, including a handful off point-blank tries from Wellemeyer.

Wellemeyer led the Beavers with four goals and an assist. Enright tallied three markers, while junior Matt Harrington (Hanover, MA/Thayer Academy) recorded two assists. Freshman Mike Saucier (Nashua, NH) turned aside eight Wheaton shots.
