Dec. 6, 2006

DENVER - The University of Denver hockey team will participate in the fifth annual "DU Skate Party" with the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation of Colorado on Wednesday, Dec. 6 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Magness Arena. The Pioneers will skate with approximately 25 seriously ill children and their parents under the Great Escapes© program. The Pioneers started their involvement with the Starlight Starbright Foundation of Colorado in December of 2002.

"It's an honor and privilege for our team to skate with the children of the Starlight Starbright Foundation," DU head hockey coach George Gwozdecky. "It's a pleasure to see the joy and incredible determination of the children when they're skating with our players. We're looking forward to a great evening with the children and their families."

The Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation Colorado is a nonprofit organization that transforms the lives of seriously ill children and their families through imaginative programs that educate, uplift their spirits, foster a sense of community, and help alleviate the pain and fear of prolonged illness. Starlight Starbright offers an impressive array of in-hospital, outpatient, school and home-based programs and services that touch the lives of more than 3,700 children and families each month. The Great Escapes© program offers relaxing, fun-filled events provided for Starlight Starbright families (including ball games, picnics, cruises, spa days and movie premiers) that provide them time to connect with other families, make new friends, and spend family time together, away from the hospital.
