HOUGHTON, Mich. (www.stcloudstate.edu/athletics) - The #10/11 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team collected its fifth consecutive win and maintained an eight game undefeated streak with a 4-1 win at Michigan Tech in Houghton, Mich. on Dec. 1.  The victory improves SCSU's record to 7-3-3, 5-3-3 WCHA and MTU moves to 6-5-2, 3-4-2 WCHA.

SCSU gained the early lead in the contest with a goal by freshman forward Andreas Nodl (Vienna, Austria) at 4:36 of the first period.  He was assisted on the play by junior defender Matt Stephenson (Midland, Ont.) and junior forward Nate Dey (Maplewood).  This was Nodl's eighth goal of the season, and his 19th point of the year.  The assist for Dey was his team-leading 12th assist of the season.

Michigan Tech knotted the score at 1-1, with a goal by Tyler Skworchinski at 13:26.  He was assisted on the play by Jimmy Kerr and Jordan Foote.


 

 

The SCSU Huskies regained the lead at 17:29 of the first period, as freshman forward Ryan Lasch (Lake Forest, Calif.) posted his eighth goal of the season with an assist from senior defender Justin Fletcher (Maryville, Ill.).  The CSTV/HCA DI Rookie of the Month for November, Lasch now has 8g/9a for 17 points this year.

The two squads were held scoreless in the second period, but SCSU fired back in the third period with a goal by Fletcher at 4:15.  He was assisted on the play by Nodl (his 12th assist of the campaign).

SCSU made it 4-1 with a power play marker by Lasch at 7:23 of the third.  He was assisted on the play by senior Dan Kronick (Inver Grove Heights) and Stephenson.  The goal was Lasch's team-leading ninth goal of the season.

In the nets, SCSU was led by senior goaltender Bobby Goepfert with 25 saves, while Michael-Lee Teslak had 17 saves for MTU.  SCSU was 1-of-6 on the power play and MTU was 0-of-8.  This marked the third game in a row that SCSU has held its opponent scoreless on the power play.
