Freshman forward Brandon Wong (Victoria, B.C.) figured in on all three goals, scoring once and setting up two others, as the Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team registered a 3-1 victory over Colgate on Friday night at the Northford Ice Pavilion.

The Bobcats improved to 6-3-2, 3-1-1 in ECAC Hockey League action with the win. Colgate dropped to 3-7-2, 0-4-1 in league play.

Quinnipiac dominated the visitors in the first period, outshooting Colgate by a 20-6 margin. However, Raiders goalie Mark Dekanich was on his game and the contest was still scoreless after one frame.

The Bobcats finally broke through at 10:03 of the second period. Wong gathered a puck in the left wing corner and patiently waited before finding a cutting Ben Nelson (Spokane, Wash.) in the right circle. Nelson fired a high shot over Dekanich for a 1-0 lead.

Quinnipiac tacked on an insurance goal while on the power play midway through the final period. David Marshall (Buffalo, Minn.) finished off a flurry in front by scoring his eighth goal of the year. Dan Travis (Wilton, N.H.) and Wong assisted on the goal.

Colgate pulled Dekanich for the extra attacker in the closing minutes and trimmed the lead in half with 37 seconds to play on a goal from Jesse Winchester.

The Bobcats answered only 27 seconds later when Wong chopped a puck out of his own end and into a vacant cage. Reid Cashman (Red Wing, Minn.) and Jamie Bates (Toronto, Ont.) were credited with assists on the goal.

Bud Fisher (Peterborough, Ont.) finished with 26 saves on the night and came just 37 seconds from earning the shutout.

The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow night at 7 p.m. when they host No. 12 nationally ranked Cornell at the Northford Ice Pavilion.
