No. 2 MIAMI REMAIN UNBEATEN; TAKE DOWN NEBRASKA-OMAHA 5-2

Freshman Carter Camper's three points set the pace for the RedHawks' offense

Oct. 27, 2007

OXFORD - Miami continued its winning ways Saturday night, as the RedHawks knocked off Nebraska-Omaha by the score of 5-2. Leading the offensive charge for Miami was freshman forward Carter Camper, who scored twice, giving him three goals for the weekend. After resting for the first game of the series, junior goaltender Jeff Zatkoff was back in net for the RedHawks, showing no signs of rust, as he turned away 21 of 23 shots faced for the 5-2 victory.

Sophomore Gary Steffes continued his point streak with a goal, giving him at least one point in five straight games. Over that period of time, he has scored three times and assisted on two more.

Nebraska-Omaha started the scoring only 4:48 into the game, when the puck took a Mavericks' bounce onto the stick of UNO forward Dan Swanson, who was able to put his shot past Jeff Zatkoff.

Battling through a scrum of players in front of the net, Ryan Jones was able to poke the puck through the UNO goaltender's legs and evened the score during a 5-on-3 power play with 2:58 left in the opening stanza.

Junior forward Dan Charleston put Nebraska-Omaha back on top by the score of 2-1, 5:40 into the second period, when he teed up a one-time pass from forward Tomas Klempa.

Miami answered back quickly, as freshman Carter Camper tied the game up at two goals apiece only 1:51 after UNO had scored.

Keeping the offensive pressure on the Mavericks' defense, senior forward Nino Musitelli, who was credited with the game-winning goal, was able to pick up a loose puck in front of the UNO net and bury the team's third goal under the crossbar. His third goal of the season came 35 seconds after Camper's game-tying goal.

Though much of the third period was a defensive battle, with 1:00 remaining in the game, Camper took a pass from junior forward Justin Mercier and put the puck past Nebraska-Omaha goalkeeper Jerad Kaufmann for Miami's forth goal of the night.

Steffes put the game out of reach by adding an empty-net goal with 39 seconds left in the game.

The officials made their presence known, as the two teams combined for 84 minutes in penalties, including six calls of five minutes or more.

The RedHawks make the journey to Northern Michigan on November 2-3, for two games with the Northern Michigan Wildcats. Both games are scheduled for a 7:35 p.m. start.

NOTES:

A RedHawks' player has scored multiple goals in each of the team's last four games.
