Cornell Men's Hockey Releases 2007-08 Schedule

14 games at Lynah Rink highlight season slate

July 30, 2007

ITHACA, N.Y. - Seven games against teams that advanced to the 2007 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship highlight the 2007-08 Cornell University men's ice hockey schedule, which was released on Monday. The Big Red will also have 14 home games at Lynah Rink in addition to a previously-announced neutral site game against Boston University on Nov. 24 at Madison Square Garden.

In addition to the highly anticipated contest with the Terriers, Cornell will also face the University of Massachusetts in a non-conference contest at Lynah Rink. Additionally, Cornell will take on another NCAA tournament team from last year in the second day of action at the Florida College Classic, as Clarkson and Maine will do battle in the second of two first-round games. The Big Red will also play the annual home-and-home series against Clarkson and St. Lawrence, both of which advanced to last year's NCAA Tournament.

Cornell opens the season on Sat., Oct. 21, when it takes on Rochester Institute of Technology at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. The Tigers were the regular season champion of Atlantic Hockey, but, as a first-year Division I member, were not permitted to compete in the post-season conference tournament.

The Big Red opens ECAC Hockey play the following weekend, welcoming Princeton and Quinnipiac to Lynah Rink for the home opener on Nov. 2 and 3. The Big Red will be looking to avenge last season's defeats to Quinnipiac in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals that ended Cornell's season.

Four road ECAC Hockey games follow, seeing Cornell make trips to Yale, Brown, Harvard and Dartmouth before the rivalry with Boston University resumes at Madison Square Garden. The following week, Cornell plays host to Massachusetts in the final contest of the fall semester.

Following the annual trip to South Florida, where Cornell will open play against UMass-Lowell on Dec. 28 and take on the winner of Clarkson vs. Maine the following day, the Big Red concludes the non-league portion of its schedule on Jan. 4 and 5 with a two-game set against Niagara at Lynah Rink.

Cornell opens the stretch run of the ECAC Hockey season on Jan. 11 and 12, traveling to Rensselaer and Union, before opening up a five-game home stand against St. Lawrence, Clarkson, Brown, Yale and Colgate. The month of February contains the return trip to Colgate, Clarkson and St. Lawrence, while Union and RPI visit Lynah Rink. Four of the final six games of the season will be played at Lynah Rink, with the Big Red again wrapping up the season against Harvard on March 1 in Ithaca.

The first round of the ECAC Hockey playoffs will be held on campus sites on March 7-9, with the quarterfinals returning to the top four seeds on March 14-16. The four remaining teams will meet in Albany, N.Y., at the Times Union Center, for championship weekend, which will be held on March 21-22.

Cornell is coming off a 14-13-4 record during the 2006-07 campaign, but returns 17 players from last season's squad to go along with eight incoming freshmen. The Big Red finished fourth in ECAC Hockey with a 10-8-4 mark.
