ITHACA, N.Y. -- Freshman Topher Scott (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) of the Big Red men's ice hockey team has been named the Tompkins Trust Company/Cornell Athlete of the Week. Scott had four points in the series sweep of Clarkson in the ECACHL quarterfinals, scoring an overtime goal in game two to send the Big Red into the semifinals.
Scott amassed four points this past weekend, with the biggest coming at the 12:00 mark of the first overtime on Saturday. He wristed a perfect shot over the right shoulder of Clarkson goalie Dustin Traylen and just under the crossbar to give Cornell a 3-2 victory and a 2-0 series sweep over the Golden Knights. His other three points were all assists on the power play. He helped set up the first Big Red goal on Saturday night and had helpers on the team's second and third goals in Friday night's Game One. Scott finished the weekend with a +1 rating. He is the Big Red's fourth-leading scorer with four goals and 17 assists for 21 points.
Christopher Ryan Scott is the son of Bob and Debbie Scott and has a younger sister and twin brothers. He is enrolled in Cornell's College of Arts and Sciences.
