MANHATTAN, Kan. (U-WIRE) -- The weather in Arizona was hot, but the women's golf team's game was a bit chilly.
The Wildcat golf team chipped and putted their way back into action this weekend at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz.
The team finished the tournament with a final round of 311 leaving them in 11th place. The Wildcats overall team total was 919 for the 54-hole tournament.
After a slow start Saturday morning, the team focused on clawing their way back into contention, but couldn't quite find its mark.
"We were getting birdie opportunities all weekend, but we just couldn't find our groove," senior Stephanie Limoges said. "We are all tough competitors and we fought hard, but the putts just would not fall."
Limoges finished the weekend at 233 after posting scores of 78-74-81, finishing in a tie for 51st place.
The Mountain View Golf Course is a Par 72 and is just more than 6,000 yards, but the team had many opportunities to score well.
"Missed putts and big numbers were the story of the tournament," Coach Kristi Knight said. "We were hitting to many balls in the desert and just couldn't seem to play our game."
In a tournament were many players dug themselves into holes, senior Christine Boucher was one bright spot on the team. She finished the Mountain View Collegiate in a tie for fifth place.
Boucher posted rounds of 73, 75 and 72 for a tournament total of 220. "The course was straight forward, but the greens were slow and our putts would not find the bottom of the cup," Boucher said. "I played well, but I could have easily scored lower."
The course in the desert was one that is very familiar to the team. Nearly every member of the Wildcat golf team had played there previously.
"We were familiar with the course, but some tournaments just aren't going to go our way," Knight said. "We need to come home and recoup."
The team needs to reevaluate a few parts of their game and then get ready to compete well again.
"We need to go back to the basics and continue working hard," Boucher said. "I believe we will bounce back and get our confidence up before the next tournament."
The Wildcat women's golfers will be back in action on April 12 at the Susie Maxwell Classic in Norman, Okla.
