Sept. 9, 2008

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The MIT men’s golf team was tabbed as the preseason favorite to capture the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship this season. The Engineers received three of seven first-place votes while Elms College and Springfield College tied for the runner-up position. Mitchell College nabbed the number four spot as Becker College rounded out the top five.

This year is the inaugural season for the NECC and the first time MIT has been in a conference for golf since the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) ceased league competition following the 2003-04 campaign. The primary membership of the NECC consists of Bay Path College, Becker, Daniel Webster College, Elms, Lesley University, Mitchell, Newbury College, Southern Vermont College, and Wheelock College while MIT and Springfield are associate members.
