Despite weather conditions, the University of Texas-Pan American men's golf program landed a fifth-place slot after round one at the Nebraska Fairway Club Invitational in Nebraska City, Nebraska on Monday (Sept. 8).
"The guys played well today; they never gave up, grinded and fought for every shot today!" said head men and women's golf coach Ofelia Lopez. "Shane led his team with a 68 and has helped put them in contention to win tomorrow."
Armen Kirakossian earned a 42nd place slot as he recorded a 6-over-par 78. Kirokossian is tied with three other participants from Army, Illinois State and Kansas, while teammate High Wongchindawest tallied a score of 79 (40-39).
Newcomer Adam Kostrich made his Bronc debut as he posted a score of 84 (42-42).
Western Illinois University holds the first-place slot as they recorded a score of 290 as a team. UTPA finished in a two-way tie with Missouri State University with a score of 299.
The Nebraska Fairway Club Invitational had to be shortened to a 36-hole tournament due to the weather conditions. The final 18 holes will be played today beginning at 8:30 a.m.
