Tar Heel Men's Golf Team Wins International Collegiate

ST. ANDREWS, SCOTLAND - The University of North Carolina men's golf team fired a one-under-par 287 in the final round for a nine-under 855 total to hold on for a win in its first event of the year, the International Collegiate. The Tar Heels edged the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest who fired a seven-under 281 in the final round for an 857 total, two strokes shy of the Tar Heels.

Tar Heel senior Martin Ureta, from Santiago, Chile, fired a three-under 69 for a six-under 210 total to finish in third place, seven strokes behind individual champion Gordon Yates of Stirling, who fired a 68 for a 13-under 203 total. Dustin Johnson of Coastal Carolina was the runner-up with an eight-under 208 total.

Carolina sophomore Robert Riesen, from Pinehurst, N.C., fired a one-under 71 to finish at five-under 211 in a tie for eighth place. Barden Berry, a sophomore from Kinston, N.C., tied for 21st place at two-over 218 while senior Reed Darsie and sophomore David Holzworth, both from Chapel Hill, posted 223 totals to tie for 32nd place.

Six other Tar Heel players competed as individuals. Chase MacFarland, a sophomore from Savannah, Ga., finished at even par 216 to tie for 17th place. Josh Moore, a junior from Cary, N.C., finished at four-over 220 and tied for 27th place. Junior Ryan Holler, from Morehead City, N.C., tied for 32nd with a 223 total while freshman Michael Sedacca, from Orlando, Fla., carded a 227 total to tie for 48th place; freshman, Philip Chauncey, from Durham, N.C., posted a 234 total to tie for 59th place and Wallace Palmer, a junior from Augusta, Ga., tallied a 248 and finished 63rd.
