KINGSTON, R.I. -- Mark Stevens has been recognized as a 2008 Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar. He is one of 96 student-athletes nationally - and 11 from the Atlantic 10 Conference - to earn the prestigious honor.

The Concord, N.H. native has compiled a 3.48 grade-point average as a finance major.

Stevens, who was named to the 2008 Division I PING All-New England Region team, finished the 2008 Spring season with a stroke average of 74.8. He competed in seven events for the Rams, posting a low-round of 68 at the Marshall Invitational on April 5. On five occasions, Stevens fired off rounds of 72 or lower.

He helped lead URI to a third-place finish at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship on May 2-4, tying for eighth place overall with a three-day total of 214 (-2).

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
