CARMEL, Ind. -- Despite the cool 50 degree Indiana weather, St. John's University heated things up during the third round of the 2007 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships.

Shooting 13-over-par, St. John's will head into Friday's championship round with a 16-stoke lead over second place University of La Verne.

The Johnnies went into Thursday's play with an 11-stroke lead over Ohio Wesleyan, who fell to third place after a third round team score of 307 (19-over-par). Clinton Dammann led St. John's in round three with an even-par 72, helping him to hang on to the top spot on the individual leader board with a 1-under-par 215.

The University of La Verne ended round two in fourth place but was able to move into second after strong performances from all of its players, none of whom shot more than 4-over-par in the third round.

Rhodes College, which led the field after the first round and sat at third place after the second, shot a 35-over-par dropping them to ninth place on the leader board. Between its players, Rhodes College shot nine double bogeys or worse, including Justin Jennison's 5-over on the par-3 17th hole.

Otterbein College's Andy Miller is sitting at second place on the individual scoreboard after shooting par on Thursday (74-74-72). Jacob Collinsworth (74-73-75) of Huntingdon College goes into the championship round in third place while Ohio Wesleyan's Jeff Neiman is in fourth after being the only player to shoot under-par in the third round (72-80-71).

The first wave of the championship round will tee off at Hawthorns Golf and Country Club in Fishers, Ind. at 7:30 a.m. on Friday while the leaders will tee off in wave two at noon.
