Miami's Ben Wood Tabbed Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week

Sophomore Earns Weekly MAC Honor After Winning A Four-Hole Playoff For Medalist Honors

May 4, 2007

OXFORD, Ohio--After winning a four-hole playoff at the First Energy Intercollegiate to capture medalist honors, Miami University sophomore golfer Ben Wood (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirwood) was tabbed the final Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Friday morning.

It is the first MAC weekly honor for Wood and the second for Miami this year with sophomore Ben Bastel also being named MAC Golfer of the Week on Nov. 2.

Entering Sunday's final round in third place, just one stroke out of second and two strokes out of first, Wood made up ground over the final 18 holes of the tournament to land in a three-way tie for first place at one-under par 215. Wood faced Stefan Wiedergruen (UNC Charlotte) and Graham Hill (Eastern Michigan) in a play-off for medalist honors at the First Energy Intercollegiate and outlasted them in a four-hole playoff to become the first Miami golfer to capture medalist honors since Matt Thomas was a co-medalist at the Missouri Bluffs Challenge in October of 2004.
